EFY Employment FAQ

Application

Can someone currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints apply for a position with EFY?
  • We ask all those who are currently serving full-time missions to uphold the Lord’s admonition in the Doctrine and Covenants to "serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day” (D&C 4:2, 4).
  • Missionaries may apply and participate in an interview, with approval of their mission president.
  • Completing an application does not guarantee that applicants will have the opportunity to interview for a position.
  • Once positions are filled, we will be unable to consider additional applicants.
  • Missionaries can complete any interviews through zoom while serving with permission from their mission president.
How can I reset my employment center password?

If you have forgotten your password, please contact BYU’s Office of Information Technology at 801-422-4000.

Note: If you have worked for EFY or been associated with BYU in previous years, you already have a Net ID. Do not create a new Net ID.

My application is saved, but not submitted. How do I submit it?

Go to the EFY Employment Center.

  • Select Apply for a Job/View Job Postings.
  • Select My Activities. All applications will be displayed along with the status of the application.
  • Select the job title (i.e., EFY-MALE COUNSELOR) that you are attempting to submit. Refer to Date Created to find your most recent application. This step is VERY IMPORTANT, as you do not want to start the application over.
  • Scroll down to the bottom, and select Next.
  • Click through each tab until you complete the Terms and Conditions section.
  • Click SUBMIT.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, contact the EFY Hiring office via email at efyhiring@byu.edu.
How do I change my availability after my application has been submitted?
  • Sign into the EFY Employment Center.
  • Click on Work Availability.
  • Edit your work availability and click Save. Update this page as necessary to keep your information current.
  • EFY Hiring is not automatically notified when applicants have changed availability, so please call 801-422-8764 or email EFY at efyhiring@byu.edu to indicate that you have changed your availability.
How do I update my ward/emergency contact information after my application has been submitted?
  • Sign into the EFY Employment Center.
  • Click on Update Church, Emergency Contact, and Tax Info.
  • Add/edit your emergency contact or ward information there. When entering your ward information, be sure to click on the magnifying glass first and then type your ward name in the new window. If it is entered correctly, it will automatically populate itself. If it does not populate, contact the EFY Hiring office at efyhiring@byu.edu.
  • Click Save when you are done.
Can I apply for more than one position?

Applicants need only apply for the Counselor or the Returning Counselor position, not both. You may apply separately for Coordinator or Lead Counselor positions if you would like to be considered for those positions.

Can I choose where/when I work?

EFY does not consider preferences or requests when assigning contract to work. EFY assigns staff in the locations where they are most needed. EFY will not assign a contract if you have indicated that you are not available during a specified week. Please make sure that you consistently update your availability on your application.

It has been 2–4 weeks since I submitted an application, and I have not heard back; what should I do?
  • Please add interviews@hirevue.com to your email contact list to ensure that you receive the HireVue interview invitation. Be sure to check your spam and junk mail folders frequently.
  • Contact us at efyhiring@byu.edu or call 801-422-8764.

Interviews

What does the online interview entail?
  1. If an applicant is selected after the first portion of the hiring process, an email should be sent within 2-4 weeks of submitting an application, inviting him or her to complete an online video interview.
  2. The applicant will be asked to record answers to interview questions. Please remember that a video interview is considered an interview, and it is the first time the EFY Hiring committee will evaluate you. Please dress and respond as you would in an in-person interview.
  3. The online interview must be completed within one week. If an applicant does not complete the interview within a week, he or she may not be considered for the position.
  4. After the video interview is submitted, it will be watched by the EFY Hiring committee.
  5. If the applicant receives a high enough rating on the video interview, he or she will be invited for an in-person interview via email.
What does the in-person interview entail?
  1. Once invited via email, follow the link in the email to schedule an interview.
    • Like the HireVue interview, applicants only need to complete one in-person interview regardless of how many positions they have applied for. Individuals who are applying for both a Leadership position and Counselor position will complete one combined in-person interview.
  2. Any rescheduling of interviews must be made at least one business day before the original interview date. If you are having difficulty making changes to your scheduled interview, please contact the EFY office at 801-422-8764.
  3. Most interviews last 30 minutes.
  4. There may be multiple applicants with you in your interview.
What do I do if I received an email inviting me to schedule an interview, but no interview times are available online?

We frequently add more interview times online. Check the website periodically to see if interview times have been added that will work with your schedule.

  • To check for additional times, log into the EFY Employment Center.
  • Select Interview Self-Scheduler.
  • If you are unable to find interview times that work with your schedule, please contact the EFY Hiring Office at 801-422-8764 or by email: efyhiring@byu.edu.
What should I bring to the interview?

Bring your scriptures (either physical or on a mobile device), and dress appropriately for a job interview.

How long will it take to know if I’ve been hired?

Counselor applicants for the EFY program should hear back between January and mid-March if they have been selected for the position.

Contracts

How do I see the contracts I have been offered?
  • If you have received an email informing you that you have contracts to accept or decline, you can follow the link in the email or select Accept/Decline Contracts from the EFY Employment Center.
  • To see all the contracts you have accepted, select View Assignments from the EFY Employment Center.
What is an “on-call” contract?

If you are offered an on-call contract for a session, it means we would like to hire you, but the counselor quota for that session is currently full. If a counselor position opens up in that session, a contract may be offered to you. Upon your agreement to work, your status for that session will change from conditional or on-call to Authorized to Work without further action on your part. We anticipate that many applicants who accept on-call contracts will have an opportunity to work.

What if I need to decline or drop a contract that has been offered to me?

Please update your Availability on the employment page. All assignments are made based on the weeks in which you have indicated that you are available to work.

  • Declining a contract means that you are offered a contract and you decline it from the onset. Dropping a contract means that you originally accepted a contract, but later dropped it. Neither of these options will be necessary if you keep your availability updated.
  • If you find that your availability has changed, you can log into the EFY Employment Center and update it. Once you have updated your availability, you can notify EFY Hiring of the change.
  • If you received a contract (before updating your availability) that you are no longer able to work, please log in and immediately decline or drop the contract.
  • If you have to decline or drop a contract because you received a contract for a week in which you cannot travel out of state, etc., please call EFY Hiring and let us know about your particular situation.
  • Counselors who decline or drop contract assignments in the state of Utah risk losing out-of-state assignments; any costs associated with flights booked for out-of-state sessions would become the responsibility of the counselor.
  • Remember: If you decline or drop a contract within two weeks of the beginning of the session, you may be subject to a $50 fee.
